What is soZiety?
SoZiety is a social network service designed to help people to improve languages. At this moment you may think that we are some kind of language academy, but that is not the case.
What soZiety wants is you to enjoy learning, and thus you want to continue learning. Instead of taking a lot of boring lessons we propose you to learn or improve a language the natural way: speaking with other people. Okay, not with any other people, but with people sharing your same interests. Sounds good?
Who is behind all this?
SoZiety started in the summer of 2006 as an initiative of a group of friends that works on new technologies. We were willing to take advantage of our knowledge from our daily job to develop something new; something fresh to help you to learn and enjoy at the same time.
It was also a way to prove that we can develop our own fully-functional project the way we liked, without any restriction.
How can I get in touch with other users?
Have you heard about Skype? If your answer is yes, you may want to skip this section. If not, we will try to explain it to you in a rough way. Skype is a voice-over-IP service, independent of soZiety, which lets you call from a computer to another computer or from a computer to a regular phone.
All you have to do is install Skype in your computer and signing in to soZiety. This will allow you to look for people that you might want to talk to. When you select one of them soZiety will start a Skype call to that user. From that moment on, you take control. You may want to introduce yourself, ask for a specific subject, or just chatting for fun.
Please, remember to be nice. This will make other users to rate you as a friend and talk to you regularly.
Do you really mean I can earn money?
Yes! Is it clear? SoZiety is not supported by any big company, so in order to encourage users to use all the services we provide we decided to reward them.
The process is very simple. We obtain all our benefits from the ads that you are seeing while navigating soZiety. Instead of keeping all that benefits for us, we reward our most valued users (those with higher karma) with the main part of them.
You can also teach a language, translate documents, or help other users in exchange for money.
What is that 'karma' thing?
The 'karma' is the way we measure the goodness of each user. This way, the higher the user karma, the better his reputation at soZiety, and the most revenue it generates.
We calculate your 'karma' every day. It increases when you get a positive vote from other users, and it decreases when a user gives you a negative vote. It is easy.
